What Garbage Disposal Installation Involves

The disposal unit mounts to the sink flange and connects to the discharge tube, the P-trap, and the drain arm in the wall. If your kitchen has a dishwasher, the knockout plug on the disposal body is removed and the dishwasher drain hose connects to the disposal inlet. Most residential units plug into a switched outlet under the sink, and because that outlet sits near the sink, electrical code requires GFCI protection.
